Scene+ is one of the most popular loyalty programs in Canada. Now with more than 10 Million members, the program supports Scotiabank customers who can earn points by shopping at numerous Scene+ partners. Those points can be redeemed for rewards including gift cards at retailers like Apple and Best Buy, movie tickets, and other entertainment. They can also be redeemed on travel and dining purchases, as well as for statement credits against your Scotiabank credit card balance.

What happened to Scotia Rewards?

On December 13, 2021 the Scotia Rewards loyalty program merged with Cineplex's Scene rewards program, giving rise to a new loyalty program called Scene+. From this date forward, Scotia Rewards members automatically became absorbed into the Scene+ program and became entitled to all of the membership benefits.

When do Scene+ points expire?

Scene+ points expire if your account goes inactive for a period of 24 months. You can keep your account active by purchasing anything that earns points, or redeeming the points you already have. This should be relatively easy due to the number of retailers that participate in the Scene+ program.

Best ways to earn with Scene+

There are many ways to earn points as a Scene+ member, and we'll explore all of them here.

Cineplex Points: You'll earn 5 points for every $1 you spend at Cineplex and the Cineplex store. This includes movie tickets and other entertainment purchases made at any Cineplex theatre across Canada. With more than 160 locations, Cineplex is a great place to rack up Scene+ points.

Scene+ Travel Points: You'll earn 3 points per $1 spent on hotels and car rentals with Scene+ Travel, which gives you access to thousands of booking options. Scene+ Travel uses the same backend system as Expedia, so you're guaranteed a great selection of inventory and competitive rates.

Retail Purchase Points: When shopping online, Scene+ members get 20% more Cash Back than nonmembers, credited to you in the form of Scene+ Points through the Scene+ / Rakuten partnership. There are hundreds of online retailers that participate, and you'll also get access to thousands of special cashback offers.

Rec Room & Playdium Points: You'll earn 1 point for every $1 spent at The Rec Room and Playdium, two great entertainment venues.

Dining Points: You'll earn 1 point for every $3 spent at several restaurants that participate in the Scene+ program. This includes Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario's, Montana's BBQ & Bar, Bier Markt, and Kelsey's Original Roadhouse.

What are the rewards?

With so many ways to earn points as a Scene+ member, you won't be surprised to find a large number of redemption opportunities. We'll explore them here.

Cineplex Rewards: As a Scene+ member you'll be able to redeem rewards at Cineplex. Every 1,250 points will earn you a General Admission or 3D movie ticket. With 2000 points you can opt for an Enhanced movie ticket, such as Cineplex's UltraAVX, IMAX, Prime seats, or D-Box. The top-tier redemption would be 2,500 points, and that would get you a single VIP movie ticket. Scene+ points can certainly be used for concessions too, with 500 points good for $5 towards food and drinks and 100 points good for $1 off movie rentals or purchases at the Cineplex Store. When you consider the standard earning rate of 5 points per dollar on Cineplex Purchases, these redemption rates equate to 5% back in rewards at Cineplex.

Scene+ Travel Rewards: With Scene+ Travel, you can redeem every 100 points for $1 toward your next vacation. And, since the platform is powered by Expedia, you'll be able to take advantage of a helpful booking feature which lets you pay with a combination of cash and points. At the 3 points per $1 earning rate on Scene+ Travel purchases, the $1 redemption at 100 points works out to 3% back in rewards on all your travel purchases booked with Scene+.

Rec Room & Playdium Rewards: Redeem 500 points for $5 toward games, food, music, tokens, snacks, and tickets at The Rec Room and Playdium. Since your Scene+ membership earns you 1 point for every $1 spent here, you'll be redeeming 1% back in rewards on all your purchases.

Dining Rewards: Every 500 points can be redeemed for $5 at Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario's, Montana's BBQ & Bar, Bier Markt, and Kelsey's Original Roadhouse. The redemption is good on dine-in, drive-thru, or takeout orders, and since you've earned 1 point for every $3 spent at these restaurants, your redemption rate works out to 0.33% back in rewards.

Scotiabank Credit Card Rewards: You can use your Scene+ points for an account credit on certain debit and credit cards from Scotiabank. In addition, you can make a travel booking with any 3rd party travel provider (i.e. even if not with Scene+ Travel) and you'll be able to retroactively redeem every 100 Scene+ points for a $1 reimbursement. You just have to make sure to apply your points to the purchase within 12 months from the date of the charge– not from the date of travel!
