There are a variety of ways for Hilton Honors members to use points:Book a Room with Hilton Honors Points
While you can't actually use points for upgrades on an existing reservation, you can certainly pay for a new reservation with points. The overall point redemption rate is heavily affected by seasonality. Hilton works with certain credit card partners in order to make it easy for you to transfer your credit card points to your Hilton Honors account.
